We request the refunding for critical support services and counselling for criminalised women pre and post release prison in North Queensland by the LNP who cut the funding last week.
Why is this important? Criminalised women have the highest rate of sexual and physical abuse perpetrated against them in our community. Due to this horrendous abuse women turn to self medication with illiiegal drugs and / or alcohol. Nearly 60% of the women have a mental illness.
In Townsville women’s prison over 80% of women are Aboriginal and over 90% of the women cannot read and write. These issues have to be addressed, so that women when released into the community can move on with their lives and not return to drug and alcohol abuse and offending to feed their addiction.
Housing is also a fundamental part of their success on release. The support of our services assists women in healing their traumas and practical needs so when released they can reconnect with their children and families and move towards their goals and being a part of their communities.

Sister’s Inside is founded and run by primarily ex-inmate women and some lawyers. It’s been an internationally recognized success model of a service that helps;
- inmate mothers and their children re-establishing or maintain functional relationships during/after imprisonment.
- improved prospects of literacy, safe accommodation and finding work on release.
Allowing how many female inmates in Qld are ATSI women being punished for defending themselves in domestic violence situations, or arrested for petty ‘offences’ related to homelessness, this being top of the list for service shut down tells you exactly where real state priorities are.
Probably not coincidentally: they host the Is Prison Obsolete? Conferences, being one of the few regional public forums about changing the overall high imprisonment of marginalized people, not just services.
Oz folk - pls. signal boost on your other networks, not many politics Oz folk on tumblr.  Non-Oz folk - ATSI = Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. Native + Black.

The Dreamers Design
Creative products celebrating Aboriginal culture. The Dreamers Design is a collective of like minded Indigenous creatives, passionate about finding new ways to promote Aboriginal culture.
The First Line of Defence tee design is a collaboration between Penny Smallacombe and Jessica Johnson. It’s the beginning of a range that honours our Aboriginal warriors of the 1800 period. It is also hoped that the designs will encourage further interest in our past leaders. The designers are currently in consultation with the various communities to seek permission to use these warriors names.
Check out the Dreamers Design website and facebook.

This is too awesome for words. I’m ordering one soon.

This is an awesome idea.

Have you ever wondered about the traditional owners of the land you’re driving through?

The Blacktracker app and GPS software is in its early development and could offer a digital connection to local indigenous cultures and traditions.

ABC Heywire winners, Angus Gallagher from Armidale, New South Wales, Todd Hayes from Eddington, Victoria, Lance Ashley and Timmy Watson from Hodgson Downs in the Northern Territory developed the idea at the 2012 ABC Heywire Regional Youth Summit.

During the annual summit, the four young men from rural Australia worked with their mentor Rhianna Patrick from ABC Local Radio’s program Speaking Out to form a working group on Indigenous Heritage and Education.

According to Angus Gallagher, “Our aim right from the beginning of our discussions at the Heywire Summit was to create a new way to educate Australians about the heritage and diverse culture that is the history of our country.”

As you drive through Australia, imagine learning the significance of a water hole, the special meaning of a mountain, stories from the past and the culture of the indigenous people.

Todd Hayes believes, “It’s a road trip with a difference that should appeal to international and local travellers and anybody with a passion for history and understanding of Australia indigenous culture.”

“An important part of the project is working with the Aboriginal community and making sure the information is right and culturally appropriate,” he said.

How does it work?

If developed, Blacktracker would use GPS software and a Smartphone app to inform travellers about the traditional heritage of the land they’re passing through.

Blacktracker could provide information like tribal names, languages, traditions and customs, some Indigenous history including links to stories, other relevant websites and landmarks and points of interest in the region.

So far the group have held meetings with the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) and IBM to pitch their idea further.

I finally was successful in a job that I love! I start next month in Aboriginal Sexual Health in an Aboriginal controlled health org. WOoo! Back to my people who talk about sex!

So I thought I would look back at the trying times of working at a local council. So many head desk moments. I have 9 more days at this place before I start this new job. 9 more days to talk about rectal integrity and lube just to freak out these mofos. Babes (chronic tights as pants wearer) think I am a “major kinkster aren’t you Kat”. Yes well, if you think anything that deviates from a man and a woman in the 3 boring as fuck positions - then yes CALL ME A ‘KINKSTER’

I sent around an email to all the people who work in my building about the anniversary of the Apology to Indigenous Australians and their families who were removed from their parents and culture.
I must have shaken up some supporters. Found this in the youth drop in space when I got back to work this week.
Also have booked in some Indigenous theatre performances later in the year. These mob gunna respect by the time this lil whitey is through.

In other news, Babes (aka tights as pants) asked me what anal beads are for. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA had to explain why butt play is fun and pleasurable. My influence is everywhere!
